Fabrication: DC and RF magnetron sputtering, evaporation, electrodeposition (films and templated).  Patterning by e-beam and photolithography, RIE, argon, and ion mill plasma etching, wet chemical etching, vacuum and controlled atmosphere annealing and RTA.  I can also fabricate anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) templates.

Characterization
: Polarized neutron reflectometry (PNR), Small angle neutron scattering (SANS), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic/magnetic force microscopy (AFM/MFM), and x-ray magnetic circular dichrosim (XMCD) contrasted transmission microscopy.  X-ray diffraction on polycrystalline, oriented and single crystal samples, x-ray reflectivity, and pole figures.  Energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX).  Magnetometry by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), alternating gradient magnetometer (AGM), longitudinal, transverse and polar magneto optical Kerr effect (MOKE) magnetometer, flux-gate magnetometer (BH-looper), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer, including Quantum design MPMS and PPMS systems.  Spin transport by 4-probe GMR measurements.

Specialized Techniques
: Investigating interactions with the first order reversal curve (FORC) technique, and DM measurements.  Thermal measurements of TC and blocking temperature.  Fabrication and characterization of perpendicular anisotropy materials (magnetocrystalline and multilayers). Magnetic vortex behavior.

​Other
: Cryogen (helium and nitrogen) and high temperature furnace experience.  Quartz tube-working.  Gas absorption/desorption isotherms.  Extensive experience with vacuum system maintenance, repair, refurbishment.  Simulation and data processing code in OOMMF, C++ and mathematica.  Machine control with Labview.  Metal working (machine shop technology) formal classwork and experience.  I also am responsible for writing and maintaining the SOPs, training documents and safety records for our lab.

​Some particular systems I have worked with include: super paramagnetic and ferromagnetic nanoparticles, magnetic and non-magnetic uniform and multilayer nanowires, uniform and multilayer thinfilms with in-plane/out of plane high/low anisotropy, single domain and vortex patterned nanodots and exchange biased nanodots.

Awards

I am a recent PhD. graduate (2008-14) from the physics department at UC Davis.  My research focuses on nanotechnology with an emphasis on nanoscale magnetic phenomena.  Received my masters in Dec. 2009.

Attended UC Santa Cruz, where I received my undergraduate degree in physics, with honors in the major and an honors thesis.

I am currently a NRC Postdoctoral fellow at the NIST Center for Neutron Research where I use polarized neutrons to conduct research on nanostructured magnetic materials
